What are LOLER/PUWER examinations?
LOLER and PUWER examinations are sets of health and safety regulations. LOLER, or Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations apply specifically to any lifting equipment. PUWER, or Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations apply to work equipment in general. Clearly, we can see some crossover which is why the two sets of regulations are often put together. The difference is that PUWER regulations apply to all equipment used at work, whereas LOLER regulations only apply to lifting equipment such as cranes. LOLER regulations include additional rules that apply only to lifting equipment not covered by PUWER regulations, hence the two different sets. The regulations generally require clear safety markings, certain levels of stability, and regular inspections.
